The Legacy of Wayman Tisdale


Wayman Tisdale left a great impact on the state of Oklahoma, the nation, and beyond. His legacy is vast, including honors such as 2002 Inductee to the Oklahoma Sports Hall of Fame, Bassist of the Year at the 2002 National Smooth Jazz Awards, 2009 posthumous Inductee to the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame and the Oklahoma Hall of Fame, and 2011 posthumous Inductee to the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame, among many others.

Tisdale's life story serves as an inspiration to those seeking to use their passions and to improve the world. Through perseverance, hard work, and many smiles even in the face of hardship, he showed the world that giving up on your dreams is simply not an option.

"Former Oklahoma star Wayman Tisdale has been chosen for induction into the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame.

Tisdale averaged 25.6 points and 10.1 rebounds per game during his three seasons with the Sooners, earning Big Eight Conference player of the year and All-America [sic] honors in 1983, 1984 and 1985.

He still holds Oklahoma's career scoring record with 2,661 points and career rebounding record with 1,048. Tisdale also owns the school's single-game scoring mark, a 61 point outing against Texas-San Antonio as a sophomore, along with career records in points per game, field goals, and free-throw makes and attempts."
